I swear I haven’t been slacking on purpose. With the holidays everything has been bouncing around, including me, and not in a good way! I thought I’d talk about the one book I read last week and a general update sort of thing so read on if you’d like to hear my excuses! As always you can listen if you follow the Youtube link in the sidebar.
The one book I read was A Tyranny of Petticoats edited by Jessica Spotswood. This was a female led, female-centric YA short story collection. These are all historical novels based on fact or around-about fact. Everything in this was great, I really enjoyed all the stories in all honesty. My favorites were definitely The Whole Word Is Watching by Robin Talley (a queer story set during the 1968 riots) and El Destinos by Leslye Walton (a story about the Fates with a Spanish twist). I really recommend this one, I know I don’t read a lot of YA and probably recommend even less now-a-days, but this one was a solid win. Definitely good for any young adult or if you’re interested in more female/queer stories that feel empowering. Good stuff here.
So here’s what happened in a TL;DR format: NaNoWriMo. Any long time reader probably recognizes that excuse. I run into this every year, but this year was particularly bad as I didn’t prepare or prep at all. Man I don’t recommend that, AT ALL. It ate up any free time that I had. I clung to my relaxing WoW time with desperate fingers, but otherwise I spent a good chunk of time at home and at work trying not to fall behind on NaNo. Also I’m having trouble getting used to the time change and light change, and if videos are behind I promise I’m behind here. BUT! I won, I did it and early for that matter, so it’s over and thank god for that.
What am I reading? I’m a little of the way through Prophet’s Prey by Sam Brower. It’s the story of the PI who was working the FDLS case that I think ended up putting Warren Jeffs in prison. It’s interesting, rage inducing at times, but interesting. I’ve also started on Uncommon Type: Some Stories by Tom Hanks. I have only read one story, so no thoughts so far, but I will continue on and report back! And the two library books I’m working on are : Arthur and Sherlock by Michael Sims and The Snake Charmer by Jamie James, and again – I’ll report back!
That’s it. Thank god this month is over! How’s November treated everyone else? Good? Bad? Also glad it’s over?
Oh and I got a fish! It’s Finduin! I smoosh Anduin from World of Warcraft with the word Fin and made a pun because I’m mature.
