Daughter of the Beast by E.C. Greaves

Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this. The narrative style was fantastic, especially as E.C. Greaves really leaned into the first person perspective. Since we’re behind Zyntael’s eyes throughout the whole story we really are limited to what she sees and understands. When there are time jumps, places where she’s lost memory, we don’t see them either. If she doesn’t understand a comment, it’s clear.

This also provided an excellent pace to the whole story. It was building up the entire time, which meant I was wanting to read and read and constantly pick the book up. I typically read several books at once, but this one consumed me.

Another fantastic part to this was the attention to detail on the Vulkari (think gnolls). They were complex and well developed! I was very surprised at how much I ended up enjoying and loving a lot of these characters.

I immediately bought the second and third books to this series. I’m very excited to read more!
